Dr Kathrin Castiglione

studied Molecular Biotechnology at the Technische Universität München (TUM). After obtaining her PhD in 2009 at the Institute of Biochemical Engineering (Prof. Dirk Weuster-Botz) of the TUM, she worked as a postdoc at the Toyama Prefectural University in Japan in the laboratory of Prof. Yasuhisa Asano, which was funded by a fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Subsequently, she returned to the Institute of Biochemical Engineering of the TUM and became the leader of the Biocatalysis Group. Since 2012 she leads a BMBF-funded Junior Research Group. In 2014 she was appointed as TUM Junior Fellow. Her research focuses on the development of novel platform technologies for multi-enzyme syntheses. These technologies should help to overcome common limitations of using whole cells or isolated enzymes in biocatalytic processes.
