The DECHEMA Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e. V. (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology) is a non-profit scientific and technical society based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It has more than 5,500 private and institutional members, among them scientists, engineers, companies, organisations and institutes.


One aim of DECHEMA is to promote and support research and technological progress in Chemical Technology and Biotechnology . DECHEMA regards itself as interface between science, economy, state and public.

The Karl-Winnacker-Institut of DECHEMA does research in the fields of Materials, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology.

The ACHEMA , which is organised by DECHEMA is the world leading forum of process industry and the international trend-setting summit for Chemical Technology, Environmental Protection and Biotechnology.

"Chemistry - The Creative Force": 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress in Nuremberg, August 29 - September 2, 2010

About 3,000 participants are expected at the 3d EuChemS Chemistry Congress from August 29 to September 2, 2010, in Nuremberg. in keeping with the slogan "Chemistry - The Creative Force", scientists present up-to-date research results from all relevant areas of chemistry. A special focus is on topics of public relevance, as innovative materials, resources and sustainability, molecular life sciences, and catalysis. EuCheMS, the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences, has 50 member societies in total representing 150,000 individual chemists. The German Chemical Society GDCh, who hosts the Nuremberg Congress, the Deutsche Bunsen-Gesellschaft, the DECHEMA and theDGKL are members of EuChemS.

This year's special focus on "Signal Transduction, Drug Discovery and Design" will be co-organized by the "Fachsektion Chemical Biology" (Jörg Rademann, Berlin) and the GBM study group "Receptors and Signal Transduction" (Karlheinz Friedrich). The special focus symposium includes a number of invited lectures on structure-function relationships as well as on drug discovery and development, substituted by short talks. Positive summary of intensive exchange at AchemAsia 2010

Fruitful discussions, a very high quality of visitors, a positive atmosphere – that’s the summary of exhibitors and organizers at the conclusion of the 8th AchemAsia. The more compact timeline of the International Exhibition-Congress in comparison to former events met the full approval especially of the exhibitors. “The time from Tuesday to Friday could be used even more intensively”, said Dr. Kurt Wagemann, Executive Director of DECHEMA. With 413 exhibitors from 24 countries AchemAsia is the most international event for the process industry in China.

Summer schools for young scientists

In three summer schools participants will be introduced into the scientific background on quantitative biology, protein engineering and biocatalysis using non-conventional media. The target groups are Scientists with background in biology, biotechnology, chemistry or related disciplines at the M.Sc., Ph.D. or Postdoc level from industry and academia.

Summit of three established symposia
